Paryushan: The Festival of Forgiveness
4 min readParyushan is the most important observance in Jainism. In the Shwetambar tradition it lasts eight days, from Shravan Vad 12 to Bhadarvo Sud 4, the day of Samvatsari.
These days are devoted to fasting, pratikraman and self-study. On the final day, Samvatsari, everyone seeks forgiveness with the words "Michhami Dukkadam", which mean may my wrongdoings be fruitless.
In the Digambar tradition, the ten-day Das Lakshan festival begins on Bhadarvo Sud 5.
